Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris born October 20 1964) is an American politician and attorney who is currently the 49th vice-president of the United States. She is also the first female vice-president and the highest ranking female official of the United America. Being a part of the Democratic Party, she was the former attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017 and was a United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Harris was born and raised in Oakland, California. Her first job was with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later promoted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was appointed district attorney for San Francisco. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010 and was elected again in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As senator, she was a vocal advocate for reforms to healthcare as well as federal de-scheduling cannabis, a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants as well as the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. She earned national attention for her provocative questioning of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings, including Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of assault on a woman.
